On our visit to St. Martin, we were amazed by the colorful markets of Marigot and beautiful beaches (many clothing optional) that are found on the French side of the island, the other half of which is Dutch. We took a day trip to tiny Isle Pinel, just a 5 minute ride in a colorful wooden boat, and ate the best roast chicken we've ever had. We are always comparing any roast chicken we eat to "Isle Pinel Chicken", but are never quite satisfied. St. Martin is typically French, with busy towns and markets, gourmet cuisine and beaches full of European sunbathers. Our favorite place was Dawn Beach, but a big resort has been built since then, so it has probably changed quite a lot.
